David Fang joined Medtronic in 2018. Currently he is a senior principal design engineer in the Diabetes Operating Unit, whose business is to make closed-loop insulin pump systems to provide insulin therapy for patients with type 1 diabetes. His primary responsibility is to lead the effort of computer-aided engineering, integrating CAE in product development phases, troubleshooting, and optimizing product and process performance, with the ultimate goal of speeding up product development through modeling and simulation.

He received his PhD in 1997 from the University of Sydney in Mechanical Engineering. He did his postdoctoral research in the field of rheology at University of New Mexico and Caltech before started his first industrial job at Amgen as a system informatics analyst. In the following years, he worked at various industry sections including engineering services, engineering software and automotive.
