Baker Engineering and Risk Consultants, Inc. (BakerRisk, www.bakerrisk.com), is a Texas-based technology leader in assessing the consequences and risks associated with potentially catastrophic events including explosions, fires, and toxic material releases.  BakerRisk uses advanced methodologies and tools to predict consequences and design mitigation measures, providing services to industries and government organizations around the world.

BakerRisk is seeking an engineering co-op/intern to assist Project Managers in their Los Angeles (El Segundo) office on the analysis and design of structures to resist the effects of explosions.

Responsibilities

Assist project managers and technical staff with project work, business development activities, and organizational tasks. May be called upon to perform routine engineering calculations, review documentation, research technical issues, prepare/edit presentations and reports, organize files, review/write software, etc. Support a staff of four engineers consulting in the areas of blast resistant structural design and explosive effects, primarily for U.S. government clients. Learn engineering software as needed to perform specific assigned tasks.

Qualifications: Required

  • Civil/Structural or Mechanical Engineering major
  • Completed sophomore year (junior or senior level student)
  • Minimum 3.0 GPA
  • S. citizenship
  • Proficiency in MS Office suite (PowerPoint, Excel, Word, Access)

Qualifications: Preferred

  • Familiarity with 3D modeling software (SketchUp and/or Inventor)
  • Competence in oral and written communication skills
  • Matlab, C++, or C# programming skills
  • Detail-oriented

Job Description

The Opportunity | Engineering Intern

Under direct supervision, the Engineering Intern will assist the design and analysis engineering teams with development of engineering component design drawings and assembly drawings.

Your Challenge:

  • Basic component design modification
  • Develop part drawings and assembly drawings under the supervision of design engineers
  • Create 3D and 2D drawings using Solidworks and AutoCAD
  • Ability to perform basic design calculations in areas of structural analysis and fluid mechanics
  • Document engineering calculations and write reports in accordance with standard procedures and templates
  • Knowledge and ability to program Visual Basic, SQL database and .Net platforms (preferred)

Your Expertise:

  • Student attending a 2-year or a 4-year college pursuing a degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related STEM discipline
  • Knowledge of AutoCAD and Solidworks
  • High school diploma or equivalent

Terms

Full time (40 hr/wk) preferred, but part time acceptable. Position is open for immediate start. Duration of internship to extend minimum through September, but may be extended beyond if mutually agreeable.
