From formation of droplets/aerosols in lung that carry pathogens, such as coronavirus and measles virus, to the way it transports in air, how a droplet contains pathogens evaporates on surfaces and how the pathogens can be detected, there is one common theme. Transport phenomena and in particular fluid mechanics has an important role in understanding of different aspects of a pandemic. In this project-based class, we will explore the underlying physics of each part of process from fluid mechanics perspective.
