Provide computational fluid dynamics (CFD) support to the Combustion Devices Branch of the Air Force Research Laboratory, Rocket Propulsion Division (AFRL/RQRC). POSITION: Assistant/Associate Professor of Agricultural and Biological Engineering with a joint appointment in Mechanical Engineering, academic year, tenure track

RESPONSIBILITIES The successful candidate is expected to develop an internationally recognized program in fluid power research and education. The Purdue Maha Fluid Power Research Center provides a state-of-the-art facility for collaboration with other colleagues in a highly interdisciplinary effort to address needs and provide innovative solutions in fluid power. The individual will engage local, state, national and international government, and non-government agencies, industry, and other stakeholders to address their fluid power research needs, and contribute to Purdue’s research and teaching efforts focused largely on fluid power related disciplines.

  1. Modeling and design of hydrostatic transmissions and hydraulic hybrid systems, including electro-hydraulic hybrids;

The Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering invites applications for a tenure-track assistant professor position with an anticipated start date of July 1, 2019. We seek an individual who will strengthen our research and educational programs in the area of fluid dynamics. Candidates should be capable of teaching core fluid dynamics courses at the undergraduate and graduate levels. The candidate should have credentials in one of three areas of research: (i) large-eddy simulations (LES) and/ or direct numerical simulation (DNS) of turbulent flows; (ii) experiments on unsteady flows and unsteady aerodynamics; and (iii) multidisciplinary design optimization (MDO). The LES/ DNS research should include either reacting or non-reacting and single-phase or multiphase. The experimental analysis should include the most advanced non-intrusive diagnostics. The MDO research should bring together fluid dynamics with advanced systems analysis. In each of the three areas, desirable research interests include physics-based modelling at multilevels of fidelity; data-driven analysis and related post-processing for computational and/or experimental results; and applications to vertical-takeoff-and-landing vehicles, unmanned air vehicles, and/or aerodynamic flows at intermediate Reynolds numbers.

The position will be at the assistant professor rank. Applicants should have a doctorate from an accredited university in a relevant science or engineering discipline. The School of Engineering at Brown University invites applications for tenure-track positions in our Fluids and Thermal Sciences Group. We expect to hire at least one person with interests in computational, theoretical or experimental fluid mechanics and soft matter, including: environmental fluid mechanics, bio-inspired or bio-mimetic systems (including bio-inspired robotics), soft matter systems, energy-related fluid mechanics, and micron-scale fluid mechanics. Interdisciplinary areas of research, with connections to broader fields of Engineering, Physics, Biology and Environmental Sciences are of particular interest.

The search committee will consider candidates for appointment as Assistant, Associate or Full Professor. Applicants should hold a PhD in Engineering or a related discipline, and must demonstrate the ability to initiate and sustain an externally-funded program of research, to communicate their research results at the highest levels, and to teach effectively at the undergraduate and graduate levels.

Post-doctoral Position – Thermal Transport and Thermophysical Property Modification of Shape Memory Liquid Crystalline Polymers

There is an opening for a postdoctoral associate starting in August 2018, in the Osuji lab at the University of Pennsylvania. The position is broadly centered on exploring and controlling thermal transport and thermophysical properties in liquid crystalline polymers. The project is specifically focused on engineering thermal transport in aligned liquid crystalline elastomers which exhibit shape memory properties. The broader context is that of engineering adaptive active materials using shape memory elastomers.

Particularly attractive candidates are experimentalists with a background in mechanical engineering, materials science, or a closely related field, who are comfortable with materials characterization, designing and operating mechanical instruments and basic organic chemistry. Experience with thermophysical property characterization by rheology, differential scanning calorimetry and thermal transport measurements are beneficial.
