The UCLA Henry Samueli School of Engineering and Applied Science will honor accomplished alumni, faculty and students at its awards gala, to be held Feb. 5, 2016, at the Beverly Hills Hotel.

More than 400 alumni, friends of the school, faculty members, students and others gather at the event each year to celebrate the school’s achievements and toast the award winners. The 2016 event will be hosted for the first time by Jayathi Murthy, who in January 2016 will become the seventh dean in the 70-year history of the school.

Alumni Professional Achievement: Dan Goebel BS ’77, MS ’78, PhD ’81 is a senior research scientist at the Jet Propulsion Laboratory whose work has led to the development of propulsion technologies used in the NASA Dawn mission to Mars and Jupiter, space stations and satellites. He is currently working on NASA’s Asteroid Redirect and Retrieval Mission. Goebel, who also is an adjunct professor of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering at UCLA and an adjunct professor of electrical engineering at USC, has earned many honors, including membership in the National Academy of Engineering.
