UCLA MAE Assistant Professor Yongjie Hu received the 2017 Air Force Office of Scientific Research Young Investigator Research Program (AFOSR YIP) Award. His project on investigating nano-architectures and ultrafast spectroscopy for energy transport was selected from a nationwide competition for a 3-year grant support.

Hu’s research program at the university is focused on understanding and engineering nanoscale transport phenomena and nanomaterials for wide applications including energy conversion, storage, and thermal management. His group, the H-Lab, is also working on developing sensors and metamaterials based on novel 2D nanomaterials. He joined the faculty of UCLA in Fall 2014. Before that, Hu was a Battelle-MIT Postdoc Fellow at MIT, and earned his PhD from Harvard University.
