Magnetic Material Signals Car Crashes
John Domann, a mechanical engineering graduate student advised by Professor Greg P. Carman, was interviewed by the Cambridge University-based podcast The Naked Scientists, on recent published results on galfenol, a magneto-elastic material. One application could help computers in cars react to a collision and protect passengers, as the material’s signal travels at the speed of light. Domann was also quoted in Phys.org.
