Thermofluids Seminar: “Beyond Wave Turbulence” by Claudio Falcón Beas

Abstract: Wave Turbulence deals with the study of the properties of an ensemble of waves interacting nonlinearly, which can be characterized by a single function: the wave spectrum. Wave turbulent states have been theoretically predicted, numerically simulated and experimentally observed in gravity and capillary surface waves at the interface of two inmiscible fluids, bending waves in elastic plates, and nonlinear optics. In this talk I will review some of the main features of the theory and show new results on the application of wave turbulence to wave generation, wave energy harvesting and wave turbulence break-up.

Biosketch: Claudio Falcón is an Associate Professor at the Physics Department of the Physical and Mathematical Sciences Faculty at Universidad de Chile. His research is focus on the study of out-of-equilibrium phenomena in driven dissipative macroscopic systems, including granular matter, nonlinear optics, nonlinear elasticity and fluid mechanics.
