"Multiscale Simulations Using Particles"

Petros Komoutsakos

ETH Zurich (German: Eidgenössische Technische Hochschule Zürich). Currently visiting CalTech

Friday, 6 November 2009
38-138 Engineering IV
Time: 12:00 pm

Abstract: I will present a particle based framework for multiscale simulations of transport processes in various physical systems. The talk will highlight recent advances and challenges of particle methods including the coupling of atomistic and continuum descriptions, multiresolution particle methods and the relation of particle methods with mesh-based techniques.

Biosketch: Petros Koumoutsakos holds the Chair of Computational Science in the Department of Computer Science and he is accredited with the Department of Mechanical and Process Engineering at ETHZ. His research is on Modeling, Simulation and Optimization of problems in Engineering and Life Sciences. Emphasis on an integrated development of methods, software/hardware and applications. Projects in multiscale modeling and simulation, high performance computing, uncertainty quantification as applied to problems ranging from the reverse engineering of swimming devices, to the design of nanosyringes and the modeling of tumour induced angiogenesis.

All faculty, teaching assistants, students, and guests are welcome to this event.
